When someone goes into residential care they are ` means tested `. All your assets are taken into account, even your home. You will pay for all your own care costs until you have £23,500 remaining.

It is a moral dilemma, who can say that you should or not pay for your own care if you can afford it.

Whatever your thoughts on the matter, the government is quite clear, if you have assets above the threshold figure, you will pay for your care. However there are ways to protect part and in some cases all of the family home and also to reduce assets in bank accounts
